Cowboys and Aliens was a sleeper when it released opposite "Rise of Planet of the Apes" a few years back. Of course we've all seen Alien invasion after Alien invasion movie from "Independence Day" to "War of the Worlds" to a sea of others. But this movie is like none other, ever wonder what would happen if Aliens invaded back in the old west? How could we possibly survive an attack with out limited weaponry and technology back then? "Cowboys and Aliens" is unlike any other western or alien invasion film you've ever seen. It's a unique vision that plays both accurate to the time period of a spaghetti western while at the same time introducing an element that has never been seen before in the old west. This isn't surviving the weather or taking down outlaws (Although it does contain both there in), but a far more serious foe, a far more technologically advanced alien race abducting everyone in their path while taking what everyone wants back in the old west... Gold... Let's strap up our boots and saddle up for a story from the 18th century, like something you have never seen before... Here... WE...GO! 

PaulY's Family Friendly Stars Presents- Columbia Pictures: Cloudy with a chance of Meat Balls: Rated PG (Brief Mild Language)

Prepare to be Served...

Today we are going to start something a little different for those of you with kids out there. We are going to call this "PaulY's Family Friendly Stars" which will be rotated into PaulY's Five Stars on a regular basis. For these films I will not only be giving it a 1-5 star review but a true Yes or No if this is a TRUE family film. With so many films out there that claim to be family films simply because they are animated films, I feel the need to start this because of my own concerns with so call "Family Films" that I have found objectionable in the past few months. I'll give the film an age rating where I feel a child should be able to watch the film, along with whether or not it is a real family film, and then a final star rating based not only on the film itself but its content there in. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a staple family film within my movie library. My question is, is this film truly something that I should watch with my kids? Or is it simply a romantic action comedy that just happens to be an animated film? Lets find out... Here... WE... Go! 

Universal Pictures Proudly Presents: Back to the Future

1.21 Gigawatts

For this one we head back in time to the year 1985, so we can watch the team of Dr. Emmit Brown and Marty McFly our favorite time traveling duo travel even further back in time to 1955! Emmit Brown and Marty McFly played by the great Christopher Lloyd and Micheal J. Fox respectively, are here in one of the greatest classic's of all time. Back to the Future has stood the test of time and is still regarded as one of the best films in all of history, why review a movie that is held in such high regard you might ask? Maybe its my obsessive want to give out another perfect 5 outa 5...  The only one so far being the Friday the 13th remake, BUT if anyone EVER tries to remake Back to the Future may they burn up on re-entry never to be heard of again. I have pretty high standards when it comes to my opinions on films, and I will take great pleasure in picking apart one of the all time greats, now while the ensuing sequels parts 2 and3 were somewhat flawed but still hailed as all time classic's as well, it is my belief that the original 1985 classic "Back to the Future" will ride high on that 5 outa 5 rating that I am hoping for, so lets set our time circuits to 1985, hit our flux capacitor with the power of plutonium, to get the desired 1.21 gigawatts of electricity we need and it'll be like we never left the 80's... So here...WE...GO! 

Marvel Studios Presents- Thor: The Dark World

You must be truly desperate... 

When do we start? 

  This was the second film released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the Avengers. Second released but seemingly takes place immediately after the Avengers Ended. Logic would say that each film following the Avengers would take place simultaneously preventing the Avengers from helping each other in their stand alone films. This film would be the first where we get to see Thor alone in a full feature length film with his powers as an Asgardian. What enemies could be so terrible that Thor would go looking for Loki's help? The bifrost has been repaired since being destroyed in the first film, we dont know how or why... but it's back. Jane Foster and the whole crew return from the first film, they unlock a door way that unleashes a power so destructive that Thor must take Jane back to Asgard with him, for her own protection. I saw this in theaters and it was a fun ride, this was long before the days of "PaulY's Five Stars" so I've seen the film multiple times but never watched it with my critical eye. When do we start? RIGHT NOW! and here... WE... GO! 

New Line Cinema Presents: Wes Craven's New Nightmare

This time Staying Awake

Won't Save you... 

This film may very well be one of the most unique horror films of all time. It takes Freddy Kruger out of the vision of reality and acknowledges the fact that he is in fact a horror movie icon. Where things get a little weird is when we find out a little bit more about the "Real" Freddy Kruger, in the somewhat the same realm as "Scream" it uses horror movie films as a base to create its own film. The reality of this film is that Freddy Kruger is something of an actual demon that Wes Craven kept at bay from the world through the "Nightmare on Elm Street" films, but once the films ended this new darker version of Freddy came into being. A version of Freddy that is all too real, no longer a demon coming to get you in your dreams but an actual flesh and blood killing machine that wants to take down the cast from the original films, wanting to act out his own killings. Freddy in this film is also played by long time Kruger, Robert Englund... but you'll never guess who he also plays in this film... he also plays Robert Englund. This film will contain the entire real life characters playing themselves, even Wes Craven. This is by far a unique vision from one of the horror genre's best film makers, but is it too confusing to understand? Is the story too unbelievable to be taking place in real life? We'll find out in my review of "Wes Craven's New Nightmare"... 1-2 THE REAL Freddy is coming for you! Here...WE... GO! 

Legendary Pictures and DC Comics Presents: Man of Steel

You Have to Decide What Kind of Man

Okay, before I even get into this, I'm admittedly a Superman Fanatic but I want to take my shot at pulling out the stinky eye for Man of Steel. The film reboots the Superman franchise following "Superman Returns" which effectively brought the original Superman franchise full circle. Man of Steel was available in 3D and 2D and honestly, I felt the 3D was unneeded except for a few specific scenes, but not enough to write home about. Man of Steel is brought to you by the same people who brought you the Dark Knight series so the bar is set pretty high, they did a wonderful job in promoting the film prior to it's release which is something you come to expect from Christopher Nolan and his team. It's a pretty start studded cast with Russel Crow staring as Jor-El, Keven Costner starting as Jonathan Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Micheal Shannon as General Zod, and British actor Henry Cavill dawning the cape as our new Superman. With the stars to ride the film to the moon and the muscle behind it to make it really go, the expectations are extremely high, even for a Superman fanatic like myself I have to say, those are pretty lofty goals. The problem is when the bar is set so high, it makes it easier to find faults in the film, because you're expecting it to be a flawless masterpiece. Somewhat of a victim of it's own circumstance similar to the Dark Knight Rises. But lets see how unbiased I can be, as we see just how high our new Man of Steel can fly in my review of "Man of Steel" And ...Here... WE... Go!

Life is a gift...

Immortality a Curse 

As promised after reviewing the horrible "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" I said we would go after the far more well received "The Wolverine". I wasn't lucky enough to have seen this film in theaters back when it released last July, so this is my first time viewing the film. So this is first impressions as well as a full review folks. I've spent the last 12 or so hours refreshing myself on the X-Men films and the continuity (or lack there of) of the films. So this should be a fun ride, many times first impressions can tend to give a film a stronger rating than upon further review, so I'll have my critical stinky eye out when viewing this film as to not get caught up in the newness of it all. It would appear the Wolverine somehow went from "Origins" to Japan jumping from a prequel to a direct sequel to X-Men 3. From what I saw from the trailer, it would appear that our favorite claw wielding indestructible hero wants out. He no longer wants his "curse" and wishes to be free from it. Now I realize this film was far more well received than the Origins story, but this seemingly just makes the already confusing story of the X-Men even more confusing. But lets give it a shot before I make final judgment, lets head to Japan where we will find The Wolverine! So...Here... WE...GO! 

Dimension Films Prestents, A Rob Zombie Film: Halloween 2 (The Director's Cut 2009)

Family Is Forever

 In the interest of fairness and the fact that I am going after all the Horror Icon Remakes, we'll give Rob another shot at Halloween. His first show, while very entertaining to the Halloween fanatics out there, offered very little originality after the first half of the film. It was pretty much scene for scene with the original. In this review we are going to review the "Director's Cut" of the film for one simple reason. I've seen both versions of the film, and the Director's cut is Zombie's true vision and is by far the superior version of the film, and tells a much different story. I really wish that this was the version of the film that would have been released in theaters because for the first time in a long time, the edits and cuts in the theatrical release had it telling a totally different story with many things not making much sense at all. Clearly the editors had a very different vision than Rob Zombie had, which makes little sense because they gave him the creativity to really make his own film this time around and then snipped and cut around it to make it a story totally different than what his vision was. The "Unrated" version of the film doesn't contain any more graphic violence or anything of the sort, it's simply not rated because this version of the film never saw the big screen and got rated. If you are going to watch this film I HIGHLY recommend watching the directors cut, its a far superior version of the film, and that's what we are going to look at today. Let's go ahead and watch Mr. Zombie redeem himself with his completely original story in "Halloween II: The Director's Cut"...And Here... WE... GO!

Evil Has A Destiny

 After reviewing the not so spectacular "Nightmare on Elmstreet" Remake and the absolutely magnificent remake of "Friday the 13th" I thought I might as well hit the 3-Peat on the big three Horror movie remakes. Whether your a Nightmare, a Friday, or a Halloween guy you know who the big three are. Freddy, Jason, and Micheal. Freddy did a great job in a film that floundered in a sea of nothingness, Jason made everyone proud out at Crystal Lake, and we are about to take a trip to Haddonfield Illinois to meet one of the man who changed the name "Halloween" forever. Since 1978 Halloween fans have been obsessed with Micheal Myers the white faced invincible serial killer. John Carpenter's "Halloween" was a b-list movie budget and became a blockbuster hit, and a Horror Classic for all time. This time around Rob Zombie is at the helm for the re-imagining of John Carpenter's Halloween. Will it fall flat on its face like Freddy? Or impress us all like Jason? New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures Present: Friday the 13th (2009 Remake)

Today, on Monday the 5th I'm going to tackle New Line Cinema's "Friday the 13th" (2009 Remake) I'm gonna go ahead and jump back to the horror genera for the night, the horror junkies just can't seem to get enough. My previous two horror reviews "Texas Chainsaw" direct squeal to the original and the 2010 remake of "A Nightmare on Elmstreet" always seems to have more and more pops every day. So I'll give the people what they want, a little more horror as we go after another horror remake. This ended up being a mashup re-imagining of the first four films in the original series. This has all the makings of the "Nightmare" remake that I reviewed earlier. Will it walk down the same road and have the same fate as Freddy? Or will Jason survive where Freddy failed? How many sets of tits will we see in this Friday? Friday's are always good for tits. Anyway, I digress it's time to review! So... Here... WE... GO! 

20th Centry Fox and Marvel Comics Present: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

"Origins" can be seen as the fourth installment in the Marvel Comic's series of the "X-Men" films or a complete reboot of the series focusing around the most popular character from the first three X-Men films Hugh Jackman's performance as the infamous "Wolverine". It can also be seen as a prequel to the film "X-Men" but it is only loosely based on it's story. Now the reason I say it should be seen as a complete reboot of the series is because aside from Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine many aspects including actors and portals of the characters have changed. Similarly as the stand alone film "X-Men: First Class" It is in my opinion that this is the first in a new series of "X-Men" Films followed by "The Wolverine" and the soon to be released "X-Men: Days of Future Past" Which appears to cross over the timelines and story lines between the first three X-men films and this new series. I'll wait to really decide just exactly what they are going for here till I review "The Wolverine" (coming soon) and do a full review of "Days of Future Past". This isnt the first movie series to have a strange convoluted storyline retconning  the past  installments and then bringing them back. This alone makes the X-Men films seem to have some murky waters surrounding them. This film tells the story of Wolverine's origin, and is the only installment of the what we thought was to be a new series "X-Men Origins". Because of this, many fans, including myself refer to this film as "Wolverine Origins". Now that all that's out of the way, (I could probably go on for a lot longer on how the X-Men series (aside from the first three films) have no continuity other than Hugh Jackman) But lets get on with this thing already! Let's just see how you did Wolverine! And...Here...WE...GO! 

Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios Present: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

(Spoiler Free) Mini Review

This was movie number two on my double header movie day. I think everyone in America knew that Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released Friday May second. One of the most anticipated films of the year it would have big shoes to fill considering they set the bar very very high with "The Amazing Spider-Man" Not to mention the expectations for the film, along with how it would match up to the "Spider-Man 2" from the Toby McGuire series. No matter what they do every film will be placed up side by side against the original series. While the original series was no slouch, this reboot lived up to it's name in being "The AMAZING Spider-man" The only question is can it continue to be amazing or will it lose its magic this time around? Hey you know what? Let's give Spidy a tiny little spoiler free review....and Here...WE...GO!

(Spoiler Free:) Mini Review

I first saw the trailer for this film when I went to see the film "Son of God" it along with "God is Not Dead" are a string of big budget Christian films to hit the big screen. Aside from "The Passion of the Christ" few Christian films are given the budget to hit the big screen. Most are B level films at best, however I'm pleased to see so many Christian films getting the big budgets for the big screen. This was the inspirational story of a young boy's trip to Heaven, based upon the book "Heaven is for Real" by Pastor Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent. I went to see this in a double feature day for me today, this was movie number one on the day and the following is my mini review (spoiler free) of the movie from the big screen. So...Here...WE... GO! 

New Line Cinema Presents: A Nightmare on Elmstreet (2010 Remake)

Never Sleep Again... 

Even before I started doing this Review thing I have wanted to review this movie for a while. Now I have yet to decide if this movie is good, or a gigantic pile of shit. All I do know is  Jackie Earle Haley did a wonderful job as Freddy Kruger in this film the rest of I have yet to decide if its any good at all. But I plan on solving that mystery today, when I watch the film with a critical eye and see just how bad (or maybe good) the rest of the story truly is. Instead of retelling the original story, or re-imaging the whole thing all together, they went a different way and used it as a platform to retell the entire series in one film. (Friday the 13th Remake did the same thing) Now while it's not all in all a bad thing, it is a tad lazy on the part of the film makers. Lets see if my thoughts on this movie were right all along, or if I have a change of heart. Either way, this movie is part of my library in the "Nightmare" collection so good or bad it's not going anywhere. "One, Two, it's Freddy's review!"  So... Here... We... GO!

The Aftermath from "Sacrifice"

Well, being new to the whole review world, and being that this is my blog and I can pretty much do whatever I want. Heck, for my own entertainment I'm going to start reviewing the "Aftermath" Shows following Pay-Per-Views (plan on reviewing those too) and if you get a kick out of it then WhooHoo! Then I'm bringing a little ray of sunshine into someone else's day! I did catch the second half of the "Sacrifice" PPV event but not enough to comment on let alone review. I am admittedly a TNA "mark" or at least I was. My nostalgic memories of TNA Impact! and the six sided ring all but gone, and taken away for "IMPACT WRESTLING" that is as it stands, either really HOT... or just Eh? Right now it's been more of the latter. Now, I'm not a giant fan of the current product but they are in the slums right now and then they really usually seem to hit their groove come "Slammiversary" Now, seeing as how this the first show going into Slammiversary I have high hopes... Will TNA inevitably let me down? I've grown sorry to say more often as of late. But here's hoping for brighter skies with Eric Young as the World Champion! I love that bearded goof! Anyway... Lets do a review... and Here... we... Go!

A Fire Will Rise

Yup, It's Batman in his final (for now) epic. It had a lot to live up to after the success of "The Dark Knight" and I'm sure all of you are wondering just what PaulY thinks of Mr. Dark Knight and how he will intend to rise. In this incarnation we see Batman, everyone's favorite Dark Knight, returns from retirement now an old man, (though he hardly shows his age once dawning the cape) to face the worlds most vile and terrible enemy. Bane, with the league of shadows from "Batman Begins" yet again set on destroying Gotham because you know, the town is bad and stuff. But it's Batman to save the city and the day and will rise one last and final time to take down the league of shadows. Will Gotham burn to the ground in a fiery fire ball of death? Will Batman be able to end the horror that is the league of shadows? How long will it be before we get to see Ann Hathaway get into that catsuit? John, this is for you! It's time to review.... So...Here...we...GO!
